In music, nothing is impossible

Some of the  local talents are in fact very successful in  demonstrating and marketing their music on the Internet while performing in local bars, parties and cultural events.

All of them want to be recognized internationally as individual artists from this side of paradise.

“It’ll be nice to see more support go out to the young and gifted individuals of our islands by giving them the opportunity to showcase what they got,” said Walter Manglona, one of the local musicians.

He believes that the islands have a lot of talented people.

“It will be nice to see them get the chance to show the world what they can do,” he said.

“Maybe one day we’ll have famous artists represent the CNMI abroad. Possibly attract tourists. You never know. Nothing is impossible. We have to believe in our people and give them the support they need,” he said.

Through music, the islands may hit the limelight as what the athletes during the Olympics demonstrate whenever they win medals.

“I just do this as a hobby. I’m not all that good. There are much more talented people here. They just haven’t been discovered yet. They need to be given the opportunity to show us what they got,” Manglona said.

As a dedicated musician, he vows to help promising and talented artists become valuable cultural treasures of the islands.

“I will be featuring new talents in my upcoming projects. I am helping them get exposed,” he said.

Manglona believes that encouragement is the key.

“There is no right or wrong when it comes to music. It’s like an open canvas and you’re the artist. Express yourself through song. You can never go wrong.”

He has posted about seven music videos, which he personally conceptualized and created, on youtube.com.

His music can also be accessed through Facebook and MySpace.

“There are mixed feelings when it comes to my music. Some like it and others don’t. That’s just the way it is,” said Manglona who has been invited to the states and Guam to perform.

When listening to his music, or watching his video, you can’t help but admit that he is a top caliber artist.

Manglona plays different kinds of musical instruments and writes his own songs.

“I write original songs based on how I feel and see things. It’s like a journal but less private,” he said.
