Learning Chinese on Saipan

It is also advisable to understand each other’s cultures and how they connect traditions with modern beliefs.

These are the central themes of the Chinese Education Center of Saipan, located near the Manamko’ Center in Chinatown.

Since it was established in 1990, the center has been offering classes on Chinese language, literature and culture at four levels.

According to its long-time principal Rose Chan, more than 200 students have completed their studies at the center.

The center has four teachers, including volunteers, for the first to fourth levels of children classes held from Tuesday to Saturday. Each session runs for two and half hours every day.

“It is important for parents that they should support their children in learning another language,” Chan said.

The center also accommodates adult students every Tuesday and Thursday.

The students have been very active in all of the center’s cultural and traditional events like the Moon Festival and Chinese New Year.

They learn cultural dances, poems, songs and plays.

Chan said the center is still surviving despite the difficult times on Saipan due to the “unwavering support” of the Tan Siu Lin Foundation and the Chinese community.

The center has also maintained its low tuition fees while providing quality education to its students

Chan said they collect $50 for each children and $80 for each adult every month. For more information, call 233-3988 or 233-9391.
