Local Census student poster contest
(Census 2010) — The 2010 CNMI Census student poster contest is for all CNMI public and private school students. The deadline to submit entries is Friday, Jan. 29, and cash prizes will be awarded to the winning students and their schools.
Students will be asked to design a poster that meets the following criteria:
• It describes “What the CNMI Census means to you and your community.”
• It uses the theme: “2010 CNMI Census, It’s in Our Hands.”
• The use of symbols and CNMI-related themes are encouraged
• Designs can be either hand-drawn or computer generated
• Design must fit on 8.5×11 letter size paper
• Original artwork only — no copyrighted materials and only one design per student
There will be three categories by grade level.
Category 1 is Kindergarten-6th Grade, Category 2 is 7th-8th Grade and Category 3 is 9th-12th Grade.
Prizes will be $200 for 1st place, $100 for 2nd place and $50 for 3rd place in each category for the student (or students if a group) and $500 for the school (for 1st place winner only) in each category.
Winning designs will be used by the CNMI Census to promote and highlight the 2010 Census in the CNMI through the media and Census partners.
Winning posters will be used in a variety of ways for the awareness campaign, the reminder campaign and the thank you campaign.
In addition to the design, students will fill out an entry form with their name, school, grade and phone number.
The entry also asks two questions. “Why is the Census important to the CNMI?” and “What does the Census theme mean to you?”
All entries will be on display in the CNMI Local Census Office after the contest is concluded. Winners will be notified in mid-February.
Entry forms are available on 2010 CNMI Census tab on the CNMI Department of Commerce Web site at http://www.commerce.gov.mp or can be picked up at the Local Census Office, located on the international terminal loop next to the Saipan international airport.
Office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Entry forms will also be sent to all CNMI schools via e-mail.
