The NFL is a non-partisan, not for profit educational honor society established to train high school students in the forensic arts: debate, public speaking, and interpretation of literature.
The NFL believes that all students should be empowered to become effective communication, ethical individuals, critical thinkers, and leaders in a democratic society.
Currently over 93,000 high school students over 7,000 high school teachers are building their linguistic, cognitive, leadership, and presentational skills as members.
Since 1925, more than 1.3 million people have found their voice in the NFL.
Philippine consulate advisory
THE Philippine Consulate General on Saipan will open one Sunday every month starting this month, its media release stated.
This is part of the improvement of services that the consulate is undertaking for the current year.
Several Filipinos in the CNMI have indicated that they have difficulty in going to the consulate during the weekdays due to their work schedules.
For the first six months of 2010, the consulate general will be open on Feb. 28, March 28, April 25, May 30, and June 27.
During these dates, the consulate will observe its usual office hours, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The schedule for the second half of the year will be announced later.
The Sunday schedule is another improvement after the consulate general allowed the use of special mailing services of the U.S. Postal Services to obtain Philippine passports.
Personal appearance is still required in to application for passports.
Presidential awards for Filipinos, overseas organizations
THE Philippine Consulate General on Saipan has announced that nominations are now open for the Year 2010 Presidential Awards for Filipino Individual and Organizations Overseas.
The Presidential Awards is a biennial search to recognize exceptional individuals and organizations for their outstanding contribution to Philippine progress and development.
The awards are also conferred on overseas Filipinos who have shown excellence and distinction in their work or profession.
Instituted in 1991, it has so for been conferred on 314 overseas-based individuals and organizations.
Interested parties may submit their nominations to the Philippine Consulate General on the fifth floor of the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe.
Copies of the primer containing the rules and guidelines for the Presidential Awards, as well as nomination and endorsement forms are available at the consulate.
The completed nomination forms with supporting documents, will be forwarded by the Consulate to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas before the May 30, 2010 deadline.
