Minister Jackson Ngiraingas said the government is preparing for the transition as it notified on Monday the private security screening company owned by former President Kuniwo Nakamura of the planned takeover.
The notice was delivered to Belau Airport Security Company (BASCO) which provides screening at the airport.
Ngiraingas said that the government is serious in taking over and initiating the transition phase of transferring the passenger and baggage security screening services to the security division of the Bureau of Aviation.
Ngiraingas added that the United States Department of Interior has also provided grants to train security personnel.
President Johnson Toribiong said that the government is not questioning BASCO’s capability or competence in providing security screening services at the airport and seaport, but explained that his ministry is the arm of the government that should ensure that the country’s point of entries’ are secure and safe.
He said that he will make sure that Basco will be not severely suffer from its investments but ensured that Nakamura’s company will be tapped as secondary airport securityservices company.
