17 youth join the U.S. Army

The oath taking ceremony was administered by US Army Team Officer 1LT. Christopher Gensler, officer-in-charge of the Civic Action Team.

Some of the newly recruits are high-school graduates, others are college students and most of them are 17 years of age and above.

Gensler said the group will undergo eight to nine weeks of training in the different States of America and the training will probably start by November.

During the training the group will study some basic skills training that will shape and mold them to become well-rounded soldiers.

“They will go to learn how to use and maintain m-16 rifle, how to apply first aid, how to march. The customs and courtesy within the military.” Gensler said in an interview.

After weeks of training the enlisted personnel will go to another school to learn advanced individual training such as infantry man, wheel mechanic or tank driver and different specialty throughout the military.

The new recruits will take the military courses for three years.

The oath taking ceremony was attended by the parents and families of the recruits .

Paramount Chief Reklai, Raphael B. Ngirmang who was the guest speaker delivered his inspirational remarks to the recruits.

He encouraged them to work hard to achieve their goals.
