2 hikers rescued at Kagman trail

TWO hikers were rescued by the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services in the Kagman trail area that is also known as Death Valley.

According to DFEMS, a female caller called 911 on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. reporting that two hikers were missing.

At 7:02 p.m. Engine 4, Rescue 1, and Forestry 1 responded to the location.

At 7:05 p.m. Engine 4 was the first to arrive on scene and made contact with the female caller who is related to one of the missing hikers.

DFEMS Public Information Officer Robert Mojica said once Rescue 1 arrived at the scene, Lt. Abraham Quitugua was able to get a pinned location from one of the hikers through WhatsApp.

At 7:31 p.m. Quitugua and Capt. Patrick Ogo made their way into the jungle on foot.

At 7:39 p.m. contact was made with the missing hikers who were deemed in good health and with no injuries, DFEMS said.

Both hikers, who were escorted back to safety, refused medical treatment, DFEMS added.

At 8:03 p.m. the all-clear orders were given and all responding fire department units returned to base.
