TWO newly arrived travelers tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday and Sunday which brings the CNMI’s number of total cases to 170 since March 28, 2020.
The 169th case was identified through travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through testing upon arrival on May 6 while the 170th case was identified through travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through fifth-day testing on May 8, Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. spokesman Guillermo C. Lifoifoi said on Sunday.
Both travelers have been moved to the designated isolation area for close monitoring, and the CHCC Communicable Disease Investigation/Inspection team has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new cases, including passengers on the same flight.
According to the CHCC online dashboard, four individuals are going through a 14-day incubation period.
Of the CNMI’s total number of cases, 134 were identified through travel screening — 81 from the U.S., 35 from a U.S territory and 18 from a foreign country.
Eleven cases were identified through community testing, and 25 through contact tracing. There were two deaths reported in March and April 2020.
On Guam as of Saturday, May 9, 2021, there had been a total of 8,036 officially reported cases of Covid-19 with 139 deaths and 108 cases in active isolation
“Based on what we know about vaccines for other diseases and early data from clinical trials, experts believe that getting a Covid-19 vaccine also helps keep you and your loved ones from getting seriously ill even if you do get Covid-19,” CHCC said in a statement.
CHCC and the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force are once again urging members of the public to consider registering for vaccination at www.vaccinatecnmi.com or by calling the CHCC call center at 682-SHOT (7468). You may also registering in person at a vaccination site. Remember the 3 Ws: wear a mask, wash your hands, and watch your distance.
