HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — The Guam Department of Education will host its third engagement forum aimed at garnering input from students, parents and educators on improving public school education.
“This forum represents the third initiative by the GDOE to foster ongoing dialogue within the community, inviting stakeholders to pose questions and engage in discussions pertinent to educational quality enhancement,” a press release sent Monday said.
In the first two engagement forums, GDOE asked stakeholders to identify the department’s success and areas where improvement is needed, along with recommendations to facilitate that improvement.
“The forum exemplifies GDOE’s commitment to open dialogue within the community, inviting stakeholders to voice their questions and concerns. This initiative is pivotal in enhancing educational quality by directly addressing the issues raised by students, parents and teachers. Such engagement is crucial for GDOE to continually improve and tailor its services effectively,” said GDOE Superintendent Kenneth Erik Swanson.
Increased community engagement is one of the goals of the state strategic plan that GDOE is in the second year of implementation.
“The state strategic plan’s vision of fostering genuine engagement and empowering our community is at the heart of the forum initiative. By hosting engagement forums, the GDOE is creating a platform for parents and stakeholders to voice their concerns and insights,” the release said.
The state strategic plan sets the framework for public school education over the next five years and, according to GDOE, the forums are key.
“This collaborative approach is key to driving innovative solutions and ensuring continuous improvement in our educational system. We value the diverse perspectives that contribute to this positive momentum,” the release said.
The engagement forum will be held at the Sinajana mayor’s office from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
