HAGÅTÑA (The Guam Daily Post) — Four men, allegedly drunk and armed with baseball bats, machetes and pipes, were arrested on suspicion of rioting early Saturday morning.
The Guam Police Department received a report that 10 armed individuals were damaging vehicles on Taitano Road in Harmon, but when police arrived, they observed four armed men.
“Officers approached and subdued the four males. The four males were later identified as Enjoy 1 Enchy, Jamal Ternopil, Marsander Doone and Richy Emmanuel,” a magistrate’s complaint filed with the Superior Court of Guam stated.
Police reported confiscating two baseball bats, one metal pipe of an unknown metal, a ratchet and two machetes from the men, who police reported smelled of alcohol.
“Officer(s) attempted to interview Enchy and noted that he smelled of an intoxicating beverage, had red glossy eyes and spoke with slurred speech,” the complaint stated.
Police attempted to interview the other three men, all of whom reportedly exhibited signs of being drunk.
According to GPD, when officers tried to interview Emmanuel, they noted he had a laceration on his arm and was bleeding from the left side of his head.
“Doone informed officers that Emmanuel had been hit by a black car and cut with a machete,” the complaint stated.
The magistrate’s complaint did not specify why the men took up arms or when Emmanuel allegedly was hit by a car. However, police did report that two vehicles at the location were damaged.
“Officers met with a witness who stated that she observed the individuals to be damaging her neighbor’s cars,” the complaint said.
All four men were charged with rioting as a third-degree felony and public drunkenness as a violation.
According to court documents submitted by the Office of the Attorney General, this is a first offense for Enchy and Ternopil. Doone has a prior conviction related to theft of property and criminal trespass.
Court documents also show that a summons was issued for Emmanuel.
Rioting as a third-degree felony carries a sentence of three to five years of potential incarceration.
The Sgt. Frankie T. Smith Police Station is seen Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, in Tumon.
