Patrol Division Chief Ismael Aguon said that the tourists were aboard a tourist bus and was traveling west from the airport when a car hit their vehicle.
Aguon said the tourists were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.He said the incident was reported to the police on December 12 at 4:37 am by the Shell gas station in Airai.The victim’s vehicle was taking the curve while the suspect’s car was heading east then took a turn heading to the Compact road and collided with the bus.Initial investigation disclosed that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol.Aguon said that the driver was booked for DUI and reckless driving.Meanwhile, a woman was also cited for DUI and reckless driving when the vehicle she was driving run off the roadway Sunday morning.Aguon said the woman was transported to the hospital for treatment.The woman suffered minor injuries, he said.The woman’s vehicle run off the road way at the Melekeok intersection.Two other vehicles also run off the road over the weekend.One happened at Ngetkib, Airai at 4:02 am of December 13 and the other one happened at Malakal on December 11 at 5:43 pm.The driver involved in the Ngetkib incident fled the scene while the driver in the Malakal was cited for reckless driving and driving without a license and driving in an unregistered vehicle.
