Abolition of EQPB eyed

Senate bill 8-37 stated that the creation of the new ministry will no longer need a separate EQPB.

The bill said that with the reorganization of the Executive Branch, the responsibilities of the new ministry includes the protection and management of the environment.“These responsibilities therefore encompasses  those of EQPB, whose duties includes the regulating of drinking water, emissions, hazardous waste, discharge of pollutants, applications of pesticides and classification of air, land, water and in accordance with present and future uses.The bill stated that by consolidating the work of the EQPB into the new ministry, the republic can realize significant efficiencies and cost savings while continuing to ensure the health of Palau’s environment.The amendment calls for the president to empower the ministry to take over the duties of EQPB.
