“I have not made any appointments, this government has a civil service classified system,” Remengesau told reporters during his weekly press conference Wednesday.
Remengesau was responding to issues that the government is “bloated” and that he has hired new employees prior to his leaving the office.He said that once he leaves the office on January 15, political appointees also leave with him.He said hiring of civil servants is an ongoing process.“It doesn’t matter who is the president when it comes to hiring of civil servants,” Remengesau said.He said that political appointees also have the right to apply for jobs in the government once they leave office.
