AG vows to focus on people’s safety and security

ATTORNEY General Edward Manibusan, in his report to the Senate, said his office “continues to focus its effort in ensuring the safety and security of the people of the Commonwealth.”

“These past two years have been challenging because of the pandemic and turnover in personnel. Notwithstanding the challenges, the Office of Attorney General continued to provide substantial legal advice to the Executive Branch as well as provided comments on proposed legislation to the Legislative Branch of our government,” the AG said in his report.

Manibusan, who is seeking a third term, vowed “to continue to work with our Legislature and Executive Branches in areas of interest and concern.”

He said his office will work on the following key initiatives for calendar years 2022 to 2023:

Support for all law enforcement through meeting and training by means of academy or in service; focus on illegal business practices that hurt consumers and other businesses; continue to foster a non-partisan position on all matters brought to the OAG’s attention; continue to promote and ensure an open and transparent government; continue to improve and strengthen the criminal code; continue to work on new procurement regulations for the government and provide training to agencies; continue to implement consumer awareness programs and investigate consumer complaints; continue to explore solutions to mental health issues in the criminal justice system; continue to collaborate with the Department of Public Safety and the Division of Youth Services to address juvenile delinquency issues; and continue to collaborate with other jurisdictions to expand resource activities to combat illegal drug and other criminal activities  in the CNMI.

The AG said he is proud of the accomplishment of his office’s staff and attorneys.

“As we move forward, the Office of the Attorney General will keep focus on keeping our community safe and secure, and continue to provide legal services and tools to assist the Executive Branch and agencies of our government to perform duties to the highest level,” Manibusan said.
