Australia provides FSM with medical equipment

The partnership is under the Pacific Islands Program and provides assistance in the transport of medical equipment, supplies and volunteers, to deliver a range of specialty healthcare services and training to treat orthopedic patients in the Federated States of Micronesia.

Six volunteers and medical staff traveled between Chuuk, Pohnpei, Guam, and Cairns from Nov. 25 through Dec. 1, 2011.

Transportation was provided by United Airlines, and included room for medical equipment to be used to treat patients and train medical staff in the FSM.

“As we continue to grow in Micronesia, we are committed to taking part in programs to reach out to the communities we serve,” stated Barry Bergmann, United’s managing director for Micronesia and South East Asia. “We are proud to have an opportunity to partner with Australasia College of Surgeons and AusAID, and commend their continuous commitment and effort in lending a hand to the FSM community,” he added.
