Meanwhile, aside from obesity, Non-communicable Disease (Chronic Illness or Lifestyle Related Diseases) is also one of the health problems in Palau.
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), NCD places a significant burden on health budget for Palau. It creates a threat to national security in relation to economic development and human resource development. It is threatening this generation and is potentially more threatening to the next generation if it is not dealt with expediently.
To cope with this, the MOH creates strategic planning with the involvement of the community and other sectors within Palau launched by MOH.
The efforts include support for food security by promoting locally grown foods by promoting agriculture and fisheries enhancing programs. Mitigating the environment to manage commercialism and trade so that the population is not exploited on those things that might lead to NCDs such as tobacco, alcohol, fatty and refined control development to assure availability of prime agricultural land. And also through the inclusion of healthy lifestyle curriculum into schools.
The MOH is also seeking expertise in the design and support for this lifestyle center for health which will be called LIFE Center.
The Life Center should be developed as a health promotion and disease prevention strategy toward the elimination of the burden of NCD in Palau.
