Toribiong meets with allied leaders in the sideline at the Forum

In an email message, the president is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the United States, Japan, Australia, the Republic of China –Taiwan, the European Union, Canada, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Portugal, the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank .

On Wednesday, the president already met with Australian Foreign Minister Steven Smith jointly signed a memorandum of understanding on “Partnership for Development”.

Toribiong said through this partnership for development, the governments of Australian and the Palau established their commitment to “beginning a new era of cooperation to work closely together to meet their common challenges and to improve the quality of life for all the people in the Republic of Palau.”

Toribiong and his delegation also met with the Republic of China-Taiwan Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ssu-Tsun Shen and his delegation to discuss issues of mutual interest and concerns. In this meeting, President Toribiong the reassured vice minister of Palau’s continued support for Taiwan’s quest to participate meaningfully in the Post Forum Dialogue Partners Meeting.

Taiwan is one of the major development partners in the Pacific region, however, the Forum excludes them from participation at the Post Forum Dialogue Partners in deference to the “One China Policy.”
