BPS activates Special Task Force

The Task Force also aims to reduce traffic accidents.

The Task Force conducted sobriety check points and compliance check points on August 27 to ensure full compliance of the law with zero tolerance for violators.The Task Force conducted Enforcement of curfew law for minors, dispersement of gatherings, prevention measures and enforcement of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products laws.In doing the enforcement of curfew law for minors, Task Force will check travelling vehicles to check for presence of minors.Task Force will also process minors travelling around town or outside of their homes without the escort of parents or proper guardians beyond curfew.All loitering particularly involving minors will also be dispersed. The minors will be brought to the police station for processing and parents or guardians will be contacted.The Task Force will monitor the downtown area and business district and all criminal activity will be aggressively investigated and violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.All bars, stores, restaurants and public places and functions will also be monitored to ensure that they are in strict compliance of the alcoholic beverages and tobacco products law.BPS is reminding all bars and store establishments including karaoke’s of the ‘no sale and consumption of alcohol beyond 2 am law.’BPS said restaurants and eateries are up to 12 am only; retail stores and establishments are from 7 am to 12 am while wholesale establishments are from 7 am to 5 pm.BPS is also reminding the public of the following: No consumption and possession of an open container of alcohol within 50 feet of a bar or store establishment; No consumption or possession of an open container of alcohol within a vehicle and no consumption or open container of alcoholic beverages in all public places; No sale or contributing to the sale of alcohol to a minor; No possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages by a minor and no sale of tobacco products to a minor (18 and below).BPS said sale of Elaus with tobacco products to a minor is illegal.BPS said Ice Box Park in Malakal is the only designated lawful place where drinking alcohol is allowed.BPS Director Norvert H. Yano is asking for the cooperation and assistance of the public and to call 4881422 911 or 4888477 for any information of any crimes or violations.BPS is also asking the parents to supervise and monitor their children to ensure full compliance with the law and all establishments and persons to take precautions and safeguards to avoid becoming victims of burglaries, thefts and injuries.
