Patrol Division Chief Ismael Aguon said that the suspect was arrested three weeks ago by personnel of Criminal Investigation Section for kidnapping charges.
Aguon said initially the suspect was arrested for kidnapping his former girlfriend but during investigation, the suspect was implicated in several burglary incidents.
According to Aguon, the suspect whose identity was withheld for the moment pending other criminal cases was responsible for more than 70 percent of the reported burglary incidents in Palau.
He said with the arrest of this man, more than 70 percent of the burglary incidents were solved.
Aguon said the suspect is now in jail for the kidnapping charges awaiting other prosecutions for his pending charges.
“Because of the efforts of the Special Task Force and close coordination with CID, significantly the arrest of this person has solved 70 percent of the reported burglaries. Based on the weekly briefing, burglary crimes went down tremendously,” Aguon said.
Meanwhile, Aguon said three burglary incidents were reported to the police over the weekend.
Aguon said someone broke into the Taiwan Technical Farm in Aimeliik and stole generator and assorted tools.
A man also burglarized a man’s residence in Madelaii Monday morning. However the victim was awakened while the burglar was going through the victim’s drawers.
The burglar fled at once but the victim managed to identify him.
