DAVID Burger, the managing partner of accounting firm Burger, Comer & Associates, said businesses should pay the business gross revenue tax on time.

Burger was a guest speaker of the Rotary Club of Saipan, which met at the Crowne Plaza on Aug. 15.

He said based on his recent discussions with the Division of Revenue and Taxation, it has been given “free rein” by the Office of the Governor to go after uncollected taxes in the CNMI.

“In the last two weeks we’ve had three teams of agents from [the Division of Revenue and Taxation] show up in our office for different clients,” Burger said. “So don’t be surprised if Revenue and Taxation agents show up at your door. They’re going after any unpaid taxes.”

He added, “[Business gross revenue tax] is the number one tax here, so please don’t mess around. It’s a very sensitive item. Pay it timely.”

In his remarks, Burger also discussed the work he does as a certified public accountant when clients are assessed tax fees.
