BWIIBWII Professional Lawn Care Services officially “adopted” Makaka Beach in Garapan on Friday, March 3, 2022.
In his remarks during the adopt-a-place ceremony at the site, Saipan Mayor Ramon B. Camacho highlighted the importance of strong families and the role they play in maintaining the cleanliness of the environment, particularly beach sites.
“Let us work together so we can promote a safe community and a clean island,” he said.
Camacho said he has also met with lawmakers and other government agencies to make the process of adopting a place easier.
Variety learned that there have been delays in adopting certain places under the jurisdiction of the Division of Parks and Recreation.
But Camacho said he is already working with the division and other agencies to expedite the process.
For his part, Bwiibwii Professional Lawn Care Services representative Ben Lisua expressed his gratitude to the Saipan Mayor’s Office for allowing them to adopt the beach.
“It is part of our commitment to give back to the community through hands-on volunteer work and help keep our CNMI clean and beautiful…from the grass of the land up to the shores of the beaches,” he said.
He is encouraging other community members to also do their part in making the island a clean place by participating in the mayor’s adopt-a-place program.
Lisua told Variety that they adopted Makaka Beach because their family members are frequent visitors of the area.
“This is where we usually hang out and we just want to take responsibility for it. We want to make sure this place is safe not just for our kids but also to the other families who spend time here,” he said.
