CHCC: New Covid-19 case

THE Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. and the Governor’s Covid-19 Task Force on Saturday reported that an additional individual had tested positive for Covid-19, raising the CNMI’s total number of cases to 129 since March 28, 2020.

CHCC spokesman Lee Tenorio said the individual was identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through testing upon arrival at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.

The individual has been safely in quarantine and was moved to the designated isolation area for close monitoring, Tenorio said.

In addition, CHCC has initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed case, including passengers on the same flight.

Currently, three persons are in isolation while 128 have been released based on CHCC and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. There have been two Covid-19-related fatalities: one in March and another in April.

Of the 128 total Covid-19 cases, 103 were diagnosed through travel screening and 26 through community screening.

On Thursday last week, CHCC said 106 travelers who arrived in the CNMI tested negative for Covid-19. Fifty-eight of them were tested upon arrival while 48 were tested on the fifth day of quarantine.

Variety was told that over 70 passengers, who were mostly returning residents, arrived at the airport on Saturday.
