The online competition was coordinated and conducted on the Zoom platform by 7th grade advisor Lorelisa Espiritu and school president Glenn Songcuan.

The decision to hold an online Spelling Bee was made to comply with the Covid-19 restrictions in place for the school. Students joined the Spelling Bee from their classrooms via Zoom on their teacher’s laptop and took turns participating with their own personal headsets and microphones.

The competition quickly narrowed down to four finalists by the third round. The students were from 3rd, 5th, 6th and 8th grades.

The final two contestants were 3rd grader Jamie Palabay and 8th grader Chealzka Navarro. A contestant must attain a two-point to achieve victory.

Finally, with the word “simulacrum,” Chealzka Navarro was crowned the Spelling Bee champion of Green Meadow School and will represent GMS in the upcoming regionals.

As runner up, Jamie Palabay will be the school’s alternate representative.
