Civic Action Team starts more activities and community projects

CAT officer-in-charge Robert Thompson, ENS, NMCBII, said the team has started work on the remote island of Angaur by pushing over the states’ trash storage area, widening a few roads and by performing maintenance on some of the numerous World War II memorials.

Civic Action team’s Hospital Corpsmen 1st Class Justin Lancaster has provided medical supplies to the local clinic, Palau Hospital, and the KGS veterinary Clinic and Animal Shelter.

He also demonstrated his medical expertise by providing first aid to a local Palauan when had a seizure.

Movies have been shown in camp by employing a team projector every weekend and completed over 20 hours of technical assistances with vehicles broken down and out of fuel.

CAT 11-01 has also provided maintenance at the Ngiwal Elementary School by repainting the school sign, installing a new air conditioner and providing new sports equipment and possibly sneaking in a water balloon fight, along with the more familiar events like movie night, assisting broken down vehicles and of course the radio show with Flawless Ray Rankins. As the new team is learning how to deal with the heat of Palau they are also learning so much of the history and the culture that according to Equipment Operator 2nd Class Bobby Straub “No matter how many pictures or video’s you see it will never sink in what Palau is really like until you get here.”

The team up and coming events are a three on three basketball tournament that will be held at the Palau National Gym. There will be two age brackets, 19 above and 18 and under.

In October the Civic Action Team will put on a Haunted House at Camp Katuu, the dates are to be determined.
