Filing a case to stop alien registration is a long process- Immigration

This was explained by Mariur over the statement of Del. Swenny Ongidobel who is eyeing to file a lawsuit to void the registration collection scheme.

Ongidobel said that rather than wait for the Senate to act on the resolution, the possibility of filing a lawsuit is being considered. Accordingly, some senators expressed support to the delegate’s plan.

Mariur, said that filing a case will take time before reach to court. However, he said that the Immigration is willing to refund the alien registration fee once the court declared null and void the ongoing alien registration.

“Let the process takes it course.” Mariur said in an interview.

“What the Immigration’s concern now is the penalty to be imposed after Sept 30 because once the penalty is implemented foreign workers cannot ask Ongidobel to pay for their penalties.” He added.

Mariur said that he is worried because while the deadline is getting near less than 50 percent of nearly 6,000 alien workers had only been registered. Others are not yet able to register because they are waiting for the government officials and other groups’ move to stop the alien registration.

On Sunday a special registration was held at the Immigration office but less than 20 came to register.

Despite the low turnout, the BOI has set again another Sunday.

According to Mariur this would be the last special registration given to alien workers to register at the office.

The registration will start from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
