The recipients of the executive clemency were Edmund Nakamura, Kione Isechal, Kedy Salii, and Valentine Bedal.Nakamura was incarcerated for possession of ammunition. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment and ordered to pay a fine of $1,000.
The president said in giving full and complete pardon to Nakamura said that he has proven that he has reformed.“This pardon will give you a fresh start and I trust you will use it wisely,” Remengesau said.The president also granted a full and complete pardon on Isechal. He was sentenced to two consecutive terms of six months imprisonment, suspended and ordered to pay restitution and for his conviction for threatening in which he was sentenced on March 2, 1994 to six-month probation.“I trust you will use this second chance to continue on the positive course for you and your family,” the president said.Salii was also given a full and complete pardon for her conviction for six counts of cheating.Salii was sentenced on Oct. 5, 2007 to five year’s imprisonment which were all suspended but for 60 days and to pay restitution.Bedal’s sentence meanwhile was commuted for the sentence arising from his conviction for trafficking in a controlled substance.Bedal was sentenced to 25 years in prison half of which was suspended and a $50,000 fine was imposed.Bedal was sentenced on Sept. 19, 2003.The president said as part of the executive clemency for Bedal, the inmate maybe be released daily from 6 a.m. and return to jail at 6 p.m. from Sept. 8 or until the funeral for his father is completed.
