Community celebrates Autism Awareness with proclamation signing at Crowne Plaza

ON March 31, 2025, Crowne Plaza’s Hibiscus Hall was filled with positive energy and community spirit as government officials, agency representatives, families, friends, and dedicated community members gathered for the official signing of the Autism Awareness Month Proclamation.

Maria Alyse Flores-Guerrero emceed the event, engaging attendees and setting a welcoming tone. The proclamation was presented by Alyssa Babauta and Nathan Earl Pagaduan, who joined Gov. Arnold Palacios and Lt. Gov. David Apatang for the official reading and signing. The ceremony underscored the government’s firm commitment to raising autism awareness and fostering an inclusive community.

Exhibitors from the Northern Marianas Protection & Advocacy Systems Inc. and the Developmental Disabilities Council provided attendees with valuable resources, interactive exhibits, and educational materials, enhancing community understanding and engagement.

Autism Society Board President Clarice Arriola emphasized the importance of the day, stating, “This proclamation is about more than just awareness — it symbolizes our ongoing journey to embrace diversity and build a community where everyone belongs and thrives.”

The proclamation signing officially launched Autism Awareness Month, celebrated annually throughout April with numerous community events designed to foster acceptance, understanding, and celebration of individuals on the autism spectrum.

In closing remarks, Board Secretary Shawna Babauta shared, “Today we came together not only as community members but as one unified family. Let’s commit to making meaningful changes that ensure everyone on the autism spectrum feels valued, supported, and celebrated.”

The event acknowledged the dedicated efforts and contributions of parents, siblings, caregivers, educators, community partners, and government officials, whose continuous support remains vital to the autism community.
