LOCAL father-son entertainers Larry and Kui Lee performed at the Gamgye Acoustic Music Festival in Changwon, South Korea on May 25, 2024. This is the second time that their ukulele band, known as Da Kine, was featured at an international music event, after performing at the Funabashi Hawaiian Festival in Chiba, Japan in 2017.
“We are very excited and honored to represent the Marianas at this awesome international cultural music event,” commented lead ukulele player and singer Kui Lee.
The annual Gamgye Acoustic Music Festival is organized by professional musicians and educators Blues Lee and his wife Vivian Kim, who have performed at the Marianas Ukulele Festival in Saipan on several occasions. “We are so happy to spend time with our good friends Larry and Kui, and are really grateful that they were able to perform at our Festival. We hope to return to Saipan again soon to continue our wonderful relationship with the people of the Marianas,” remarked Blues.
Larry and his son Kui have been performing professionally on Saipan for over a decade and have been teaching ukulele in the CNMI since 2008. For more information, email larrylee33@gmail.com/.
