(SIS) — Saipan International School proudly announces that 84% of all students attempting Advanced Placement or AP exams at SIS in 2025 received scores of 3 or higher, up 10% from 2024. This demonstrates strong performance on some of the most challenging academic assessments available to high school students.

Sixty-four SIS students took 170 exams across a wide range of subjects. Among the strongest results were in Biology, Calculus, English Literature, Human Geography, Precalculus, Seminar, and Statistics, where students showed exceptionally high pass rates and engagement compared to other schools in the CNMI and globally. These results reflect the school’s continued leadership as the first AP Capstone school in the CNMI. The top five results were:

“These results are a testament to our students’ commitment and the dedication of our AP teaching staff,” said Dr. Ron Snyder, headmaster of Saipan International School. “Our students continue to demonstrate that hard work, academic curiosity, and resilience can lead to exceptional outcomes — even in the most challenging college-level coursework available at the high school level. I will miss them next year but look forward to hearing what wonderful things they accomplish!”
Although the report is still preliminary, at least 16 students will earn prestigious AP Scholar recognitions, including awards for Distinction, Honor, and Scholars. These honors reflect consistent achievement across multiple exams and are granted by the College Board based on both the number of exams passed and average scores.
Counselor Angela Taflinger, who served this year as an AP Reader for AP Research, highlighted the depth of student achievement:
“Serving as a College Board Reader for AP Research gave me a powerful perspective on how rigorous and rewarding this program truly is,” Taflinger said. “I’m incredibly proud to share that all 21 students who attempted AP Seminar this year passed — an outstanding accomplishment that speaks to both their effort and their critical thinking skills. I’m looking forward to working with a large and highly motivated group in AP Research next year. Watching students take ownership of original, college-level inquiry projects is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work as a counselor and educator.”
Incoming Headmaster Martin Jambor also emphasized SIS’s forward-looking approach:
“SIS has built a strong reputation for excellence through its AP program, and we plan to take it even further. Starting next year, we are adopting a full suite of Pre-AP courses to strengthen skills earlier and expand access to AP success. By building that foundation intentionally, we expect our already strong performance to grow even more in the years ahead.”
Widely recognized throughout the region for its academic excellence, Saipan International School continues to set the standard for high-quality education in the Pacific. With strong AP results, small class sizes, and a globally minded curriculum, SIS prepares students not just for college — but for success in life.
