TOP winners in the Marianas Variety’s “Draw Your Teacher” contest received their special prizes in our office on October 3.
Marianas Variety offered the Draw Your Teacher contest as a way to honor teachers for World Teacher Day today, October 4.
The contest was open to students in first grade to fifth grade in the CNMI’s public and private school systems.
Students were challenged to show how much they appreciated their favorite teacher with a drawing.
They were judged according to the following criteria: Interpretation of the theme; originality and artistic quality; visual elements; and overall impression.
This year’s winners are:
- Emily Kang from Saipan Community School who painted teacher Megan Dame;
- Wyuna Dela Rosa from William S. Reyes Elementary School who painted teacher Lovely Cruz;
- Colin Lilles from Green Meadow School who painted teacher Salma Lapuz;
- Stella Park from Saipan International School who painted teacher Amie McRoberts; and
- Elizabeth Shi from Agape Christian School who painted her teacher Ms. Alice.
For their prize packages, students received a $25 gift certificate from National Office Supply, a $20 gift certificate from Herman’s Modern Bakery, Marianas Variety themed stationary, a gift voucher, and MarPac goodies.
Their teachers were also given a special prize package that included a $15 gift certificate from National Office Supply, $20 gift certificate from Island Touch, Marianas Variety themed stationary, a gift voucher, and MarPac goodies.
One of the student winners, Park, told Marianas Variety she felt “very good” about winning the event for her teacher, Amie McRoberts. She wanted to paint McRoberts because she coordinates her outfit and glasses with her outfit for the day.
“If she wears a color her whole body is the same color,” Park said.
For her part, McRoberts said she was pleased her art student won. To mark the occasion, she wore the glasses and necklace that Park painted.
