Court grants Sagana’s 3rd request for trial continuance

BONIFACIO “Boni” Sagana’s third request to reschedule his jury trial for another date was granted by the federal court.

His jury trial is now scheduled for June 27, 2023 at 10 a.m.

Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona of the District Court for the NMI previously granted his first request and continued his jury trial from Oct. 4, 2022 to Dec. 13, 2022.

Through attorney Richard Miller, Sagana later requested the court to continue the trial to March 14, 2023, which the judge also granted.

At a hearing on Wednesday, Sagana appeared in court with Miller while Assistant U.S. Attorney Albert Flores Jr. represented the federal government.

As for Sagana’s request for notice of intent to offer other-acts evidence, motion to suppress, and motion to compel production of interview notes, the court scheduled a hearing for March 9, 2023, at 1:30 p.m.

Judge Manglona likewise scheduled a hearing for March 15, 2023 at 11 a.m. for Sagana’s motion to compel discovery of materials relating to the U.S. government’s search of the CNMI Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Sagana was arrested on May 16, 2022 in Wisconsin on the charge of conspiring with others to unlawfully produce CNMI driver’s licenses.

He has pled not guilty and was released on his personal recognizance, but is prohibited from leaving the CNMI.
