CPA to receive $2.8M for new loading bridge at Saipan airport

THE Commonwealth Ports Authority was awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration $2.8 million for the replacement of a loading bridge at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport, CPA Board Chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds said.

“So that is really good news and I thank everyone for your hard work because the work that you have been doing, and all the documents that you have submitted, obviously have resonated,” she said during a CPA board meeting last week. “We will keep working and making sure that everything [at the NMI airports] is good,” she added.

King-Hinds earlier said that the Saipan airport requires a complete overhaul to keep pace with changing regulations, safety and security needs, as well as the needs of the community and the local economy.

Saipan airport is expecting more flights to come in, according to CPA Executive Director Christopher Tenorio who reported that United Airlines started its Narita-Saipan flights on Sept. 2 and is operating three times a week. This is on top of United Airlines’ daily flights to Saipan from other destinations.

Tenorio said Jeju Airlines has scheduled flights almost every day, T’Way Airlines has daily flights while Asiana Airlines has flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
