Daewoo donates to ROP

According to Daewoo officials, the donation comes in the form of repair work done to a section of the Compact Road that was damaged as a result of a freak accident last year.

The section of the road in Ngaraard was charred on November 14, 2007 when a Nissan Terrano driven by Doctor Irene Naito caught on fire. The doctor escaped unharmed; however, most of the Terrano – except for its metal parts – disintegrated in the fire. The extreme heat of the burning vehicle melted the asphalt.

Since the fire, the damaged road had not been repaired properly until last week.

According to Daewoo officials, work on the damaged road began last week. Most of the materials needed for the repair were bought from Surangel and Sons Co.

“The cost of the repair – materials and labor – is in the range of $15,000,” the officials said. “The repair work done on the damaged road is Daewoo’s contribution to Palau, a gift.”

The Daewoo officials further that Surangel and Sons Company is commended for its support in the repair work of the Compact Road.

“We’d like to acknowledge Surangel and Sons Company for its generous discount on the materials needed for the repair work,” said the officials, “the company’s effort into ensuring that the repair work is completed adds more meaning to Daewoo’s donation; and we thank Surangel and Sons Company for its support.”

The repaired section of the road was officially opened at about 1:30 p.m. yesterday. The public is asked to drive safely and to be cautious of all on-going maintenance and repair work on the Compact Road.
