DEA mum on operation at Saipan postal office

THE U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency declined to provide information regarding an operation it conducted at the Saipan postal office in Chalan Kanoa early Tuesday afternoon.

“We cannot disclose any information about an active case,” a DEA agent based on Guam told Variety.

Variety learned that during the DEA operation at the post office, the suspect was “being problematic.”

Asked if the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force was involved, Department of Public Safety public information officer Adrian Pangelinan said, “Nothing on DPS side.”

Late last year, the Department of Finance-Customs Division reported that large amounts of illicit drugs were being intercepted through the post office.

This has resulted in a more stringent inspection of packages and mail before being released to the owners.
