Merep is still in a hospital in Singapore where he reportedly suffered a mild stroke in flight on approach to the nation from the Philippines.
Delegates in a statement said that Merep’s trip was cut short after the sudden illness.
Merep and Education Minister Masa-Aki Emesiochl were supposed to attend the 1st session of the General Assembly of the Forum of Asia Pacific Parliamentarians for Education in Singapore.
State Minister Victor Yano, who is also a medical doctor, said Merep is receiving high quality medical observation and treatment at the well-known Changi Hospital in Singapore.
Yano has said to have talked to Merep and appears to be fully recovering from the illness.
The minister who is also a medical doctor said that the delegate is now able to stand and walk and is stable enough to take his medicine.
Merep however still need to stay in the hospital for a couple more weeks before he is well enough and cleared by the doctors to fly home.
House Speaker Noah Idechong saidthat Merep has the full support of the House and hopes for his fast recovery and safe return to Palau.
“We are urged as a public to offer our prayers for Delegate Merep who suffered this sudden medical mishap while dutifully representing his country in a foreign land,” Idechong stated.
