Emergency of Health Administrator Pearl Marumoto in president’s weekly conference said that there were no reported cases of dengue fever from Oct. 22 to 28.
The cases for October meanwhile are down to 17 cases, compared to the 44 cases in September.Marumoto added that most of the dengue fever incidents were reported in Koror with 81 cases.Marumoto said that from August to October 2008 there are 106 cases and most of the incidents were reported in the month of August.On September 02, 2008, The Bureau of Public Health Services, Ministry of Health officials declared an outbreak of dengue fever in the Republic of Palau with 45 confirmed cases for the month of August 2008.The National Avian/Pandemic Influenza/Emerging/Re-emerging Diseases Advisory & Coordinating Team (Multi-Agency Taskforce) convened and launched a national campaign, including extensive public education and nation-wide clean up efforts to get rid of dengue mosquito breeding areas in all states in Palau. The National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) worked closely with the Multi-Agency Taskforce to coordinate with Rubekul Belau (Council of Chiefs), Mechesil Belau (Traditional Women Leaders), and the Governors’ Association and have combined their joint efforts to prevent the outbreak from becoming more wide-spread.A clean-up effort was also conducted to get rid of mosquito breeding sites especially during the rainy seasons.
