The police affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court stated that Sheldon Rengulbai of Airai State admitted his crime during the course of investigation.The affidavit of Police Officer Earlee Decherong stated that Rengulbai admitted of hitting Doktok in the head with a pickaxe more than three times.Rengulbai admitted that he stood up with the head of the pick axe and struck Doktok in the head while he was sleeping in his bedroom on July 10.The affidavit stated that the reason why the suspect wanted to harm Doktok was because the cop is always chasing him.The affidavit stated that the suspect admitted that during the seven years he spent in prison, he always thought about Doktok and he didn’t like the way the cop looked at him after he got out of prison.Rengulbai was arrested on Thursday morning at his residence in Airai for attempted first degree murder and burglary.He appeared in court later that day and entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.He was represented by Chief Public Defender Garth Backe while Assistant Attorney General Michael Copeland appeared on behalf of the government.The court set the bail at $7,000 surety bond.Status conference was set for October 17 at 9:45 a.m.The police affidavit stated that in 2003, Doktok’s wife found Rengulbai in a room with his daughter.Before the couple could tell Rengulbai to leave, he left the room.Later that year, he saw Sheldon sitting with his daughter under the mahogany tree near their house.The affidavit stated that Doktok told Rengulbai to leave his daughter alone.The affidavit stated that Rengulbai was drunk on the night of July 9 and early morning of July 10. He later sneaked into the victim’s house through the window and saw the victim sleeping. He went outside to look for a weapon and went back inside the house.The defendant watched the victim sleep for a while before he struck the victim in the head.
