(DPS) — On Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, at around 9:15 p.m., officers on Tinian were conducting routine patrol throughout the island when they noticed a door left opened at the American Gun club in the Kastiyu area of the island. Officers radioed dispatch to contact the owners of the private shooting range.
Further investigation revealed that the shooting range had not been in operation for a few months, but the firearms and ammunitions remained stored there. All firearms currently missing are confirmed to be privately owned. The owners of the business are working with police to provide a list of the missing inventory.
At this time, the Department of Public Safety would like to confirm that the DPS armory on the island of Tinian, and its government-issued firearms and ammunition are secure and accounted for.
This investigation remains ongoing.
The CNMI Department of Public Safety would like to remind the public to share official and accurate information, verified notices, press releases, and advisories from official sources.
