Ebiil Society Inc. host Summer Camp

According to Bridgette Adachi, ESI’s secretary and treasurer, ESI, since its incorporation, has made every effort to promote the conservation and protection of the environment, particularly the marine resources.  Further, in its efforts, it has conducted environmental clean-ups, tree planting activities, and its members have actively participated in numerous conservation forums and workshops.  Moreover, ESI has successfully sponsored and conducted youth summer camps.Adachi said that this summer’s youth  summer camp will be focused on traditional and modern scientifically based conservation efforts – as promulgated during the Ngarchelong Leaders’ Summit on the Northern Reefs  in May – and identification of areas and resources in the Northern Reefs that are of concern.“Participants of this summer’s camp will have opportunities to learn from members of the Palau Conservation Society, Palau International Coral Reef Center, traditional leaders of Ngarchelong as well as participate in activities designed to promote conservation awareness,” Adachi said.Adachi said that due to lack of immediate funding and resources, ESI cannot cater to all of Palau’s youth and has to limit camp participation to Ngarchelong youth.Members of ESI, summer camp counselors, and members of the various Ngarchelong communities, and supporting organizations will be meeting at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday, July 12, at Ollei Port, Ngarchelong to discuss details of the camp.According to Adachi, registration for this year’s Ebiil Summer Camp has began.  Each participant is expected to pay a $15 registration fee – covers all meals for the duration of the camp.  Interested individuals or groups are asked to contact Bridgette or Dahlia at 855-1077 for further information. In addition, Adachi said ESI is actively soliciting for support – in kind and monetary – to further its conservation efforts.  Any person, company, agency, or organization interested in contributing to support ESI or one of its specific activities can contact Bridgette at 779-8821 or 855-1077.
