Gandi Baules was charged with assault and battery and attempted assault and battery with a dangerous weapon for assaulting Sung-Hoon Kim on Nov. 23 and for attempting to run over Sugiyanto, Kim’s bodyguard on Nov. 26.
Baules was brought to court where he entered a not guilty plea to the charges.He was released from custody after posting a $200 surety bond.He was ordered to stay away from the victim and his bodyguard and from the disputed property in Ngerbechedesau.The affidavit of probable cause submitted to the court states that on Nov. 26, Police Officer Palmer Swei received a report that Kim, the planning manager for Daewoo E&C, was pushed by Baules and that the defendant threw a rock at Kim’s car on Nov. 23.The affidavit stated that Baules continued to threaten the victim, saying that Kim should move away from the disputed property in Ngerbechedesau.According to the affidavit, the victim hired a bodyguard to protect himself from Baules.On Nov. 26, police learned that Baules tried to run over the bodyguard with his vehicle.According to the affidavit, Baules then turned his vehicle around, approached the bodyguard and threatened to kill him while yelling invectives at him.There is a civil suit between Senator Baules and his brother regarding the ownership of the property that Kim occupies.Kim has signed a land use agreement with the senator, which the defendant opposes.
