THE Saipan Filipino-American Lions Club on Sunday held a groundbreaking ceremony for a concrete bench project at a school bus stop in Garapan, Middle Road.
Club President Marcelo Masilungan said the concrete bench is for the students who wait for their school bus.
He said every time he passes by at the school bus stop in the morning, “I can see a lot of students standing outside of the bus stop.”
Masilungan said some teachers have also asked him about building a bench for the students so they can sit while waiting for their school bus.
He noted that the school bus stop was built by the United Filipino Organization of which he is also the current president.
“We will build a concrete bench at the bus stop,” he added.
For his part, Lions Club District 204 Governor Atoy Banting expressed his appreciation to the Saipan Fil-Am Lions Club members for their ongoing service to the community.
There are eight Lions Clubs on Saipan.
Banting also expressed his gratitude for the opportunity, trust and support given to him by the Lions of District 204 which comprises Region 1 (Guam), Region 2 (Saipan) and Region 3, (Marshall Islands, FSM, and Palau).
Banting, who is the first District 204 governor from Saipan, started his term on July 1, 2021.
He told Variety that recently, the Lions Club International District 204 donated $14,500 to the victims of Typhoon Rai/Odette in the Philippines.
