Filipino community to celebrate 124th Philippine Independence Day on June 12

THE United Filipino Organization is inviting island residents to its “Pistang Pinoy 2022” in celebration of the 124th Philippine Independence Day on Sunday, June 12, 2022 at the Marianas Business Plaza grounds.

Starting at 10 a.m. the event will feature live performances and games with exciting prizes.

This year’s Independence Day theme is “Pagsuong sa Hamon ng Panibagong Bukas” or “Rise Toward the Challenge of a New Beginning.”

“As we celebrate the anniversary of our nation’s declaration of independence, we would also like to remember the hard work and sacrifice that many members of our Filipino community endured during the Covid-19 pandemic,” UFO President Marcelo “Mar” Masilungan said.

“Although many of us have experienced different kinds of hardship and loss, we also experienced the unity, positivity, compassion, and selflessness of many of our Filipino brothers and sisters as they rebuild and reconnect with those of us who are struggling.

“As a community, we should be proud of our ability to look out for one another and remain strong in the face of any challenges that come our way.

“This is why I encourage the Filipino community of the Northern Mariana Islands to keep their faith and hope in not only God our creator and one another, but most importantly, ourselves.

“Although the past couple of years we have had our fair share of challenges, the Filipino spirit of helping each other through thick or thin will always endure as we push forward with determination for and gratitude to our friends, family, and the opportunities to do so.

“On behalf of the United Filipino Organization and its 19 member organizations, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation to all the members and volunteers. And to all the people of the CNMI, thank you for your continued friendship and support throughout all these years. God bless us all!”

Among the sponsors of this year’s “Pistang Pinoy” are RNV Construction, IT&E, Tan Siu Li Foundation, Marianas Business Plaza, and Radiocom/KWAW Magic 100 FM.
