Fire and Rescue receives fire truck

The truck was a grant from the USFS following the request of the DOFR early this year.

Fire and Rescue deputy chief Ron Ronny Ngirachereang said the fire truck is a surplus equipment of the USFS. Nevertheless, this will help the office for its training and rescue operation.

He said one brand new fire truck is worth more than hundred thousand dollars and the government cannot afford to purchase a new one.

“With the additional fire truck, the DOFR has now four fire vehicles available for our operation from Babeldaob to Koror.” Ngirachereang said.

Aside of fire truck, the DOFR also requested an ambulance to the USFS and they expected to arrive soon.

Fire and Rescue Chief Benhart Baulechong earlier said that fire personnel were facing difficulties in responding bushfires during the dry season because their fire trucks are more than 35 years old. These vehicles are second hand from the U.S.

He said that to continue their operation he asked grant to the USFS and other non-governmental organizations for fire equipments.

Meanwhile, Ngirachereang added that since the dry season was over no cases of bushfires or fire incident have been reported to the office.

Nevertheless, Ngirachereang said that their public education is still continues to prevent fire.
