FIREFIGHTERS on Saturday responded to a blaze that broke out in the garage of a Chalan Kanoa house.
In a statement on Monday, the Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services said a caller reported seeing heavy smoke near Chalan Kanoa Beach Hotel at 1:19 p.m. on Feb. 5.
DFEMS said at 1:21 p.m., Engine-2, Engine-4, Rescue-1 and Medic-2 responded to the call. Engine-4 was the first to arrive on scene when the garage was already “fully engulfed.”
By 1:36 p.m., the fire was under control, DFEMS stated.
Max R. Muna, fire prevention and arson investigator, said the cause of fire was accidental and involved debris.
He said after interviewing witnesses and conducting a scene investigation, DFEMS determined that the fire started in the garage of the concrete, three-bedroom, two-bathroom house.
The garage was exposed to “moderate to severe heat” and sustained “smoke damage,” DFEMS added.
Investigation also showed that a neighboring residence was burning natural debris that day and that moderate winds blew south toward the concrete house, DFEMS stated.
The department did not say if anyone was hurt during the fire.
