Anastacio was the Minister of State during the fifth Palau government and former President Kuniwo Nakamura’s term. He and Taiwan’s former Foreign Minister Cheng Chien-ren signed the joint declaration to strengthen the two countries’ bilateral cooperation.
“I want to congratulate Taiwan on its 99th anniversary in general, and for their diplomatic friendship in particular,” Anastacio said in an interview.
He said former President Nakamura made a wise decision in establishing diplomatic ties with Taiwan during his administration.
“It has blossomed throughout the years,” Anastacio said. “The number of Taiwanese tourists has gone up, and businesses have blossomed.”
Although he has not been in public office for years, Anastacio said he has always been an ardent supporter of Taiwan, and he has always appreciated the friendship.
The ROC Embassy is hosting a dinner reception today at Palasia Hotel in celebration of its 99th National Day.
