Francisco Shai arrested on drug charges

FRANCISCO San Nicolas Shai, also known as Tick, was arrested by the Tinian Department of Public Safety for selling methamphetamine to an informer on two occasions.

Shai, 44, appeared before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho for a bail hearing on Wednesday afternoon.

The defendant was charged with possession of a controlled substance, trafficking and conspiracy.

Judge Camacho imposed a $100,000 bail on Shai and remanded him to the custody of the Department of Corrections after the hearing.

Shai was ordered to return to court on April 5 at 10 a.m. for a preliminary hearing, and on April 10 at 10 a.m. for arraignment.

Assistant Attorney General Heather Barcinas appeared for the government. Because the Public Defender’s Office has a conflict in representing Shai, the court appointed private attorney Keith Chambers to represent the defendant.

According to the complaint against Shai, police learned from an informer that the defendant was selling meth in the amount of $50, $100, and above.

In the first controlled buy, the informer bought $100 worth of meth from Shai. In the second controlled buy, the informer bought $50 worth of meth from the defendant.

On both occasions, the crystalline substance procured from the controlled buys tested positive for methamphetamine, police said.
