Gas prices down by 10 cents

MOBIL Oil and Shell Marianas reduced their gasoline prices by 10 cents on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, but the diesel price remains the same.

The price of regular gas went down to $5.16 a gallon from $5.26 a gallon while the premium gas price is now down to $5.61 a gallon from $5.71 a gallon. Diesel is still $6.53 a gallon.

On Rota, Calvo Enterprises said its new supply of fuel is arriving today, Friday, Oct. 28, but they will implement the price rollback at 6 a.m. on Saturday. As of Thursday afternoon, the regular gas price on Rota was still $6.74 a gallon, and the diesel price was still $10.07 a gallon.

Tinian Fuel Services’ regular gas price as of Thursday was still $7.049 a gallon while diesel cost $8.44 a gallon.

Kaye Nepaial, who works for the Saipan mayor’s office, said she doesn’t drive a car, but she’s happy that gasoline prices are down. She said a family member drops and picks her up at work.

She believes that any change in fuel prices has an impact on the prices of household commodities and utility cost so it is always good news to hear that fuel prices are down.

In an interview on Wednesday, National Public Radio’s Camila Domonoske said: “As for what’s really moving the needle, it’s the same thing that’s always moving the needle — markets. Prices are set in a market between sellers and buyers. So if you want to know why prices have been on such a rollercoaster this year, take your pick. You’ve got Russia invading Ukraine. You’ve got OPEC+ cutting production. That sent oil prices up. You’ve got worries about a global recession and now the change in the season driving prices down. I mean, all of these things are well beyond the control of whoever is in the White House.”
