(GCA) — Grace Christian Academy Hans Gabriel Ordas topped the 4th grade level and was the overall winner among the CNMI’s 4th to 8th graders who competed in the Math League’s first online qualifying round competition in March. He will compete again in the 2nd qualifying round this April.
Math League is one of the largest networks of local and state math competitions at the elementary, middle, and high school levels in the United States and abroad. Mathleague.org runs more than 400 contests globally and reaches over 30,000 students each year.
Ordas, who was also the top winner in other islandwide Math competitions in the past school years, said he was excited to be a part of the Math League competition for the first time. “To be honest, the questions were pretty hard. I had no idea what types of questions would come out, so yeah, I was really nervous, and excited too at the same time. I’m so glad that, at the end of the day, I got to qualify somehow. The experience taught me a lot and it would surely help me prepare for the next round,” he said.
In all the competitions that he joined, he said he always did his best and acknowledged God who did the rest. “That’s what my parents always tell me, and it works all the time,” he added.
He is thankful for his parents who are very happy for him. His parents said their son loves Math and likes answering Math problems even at a young age. “We didn’t expect him to qualify in the Math League at his first try. Just to experience the competition and learn from it would have been enough for us as parents. To be able to qualify, which he did, is a bonus and that makes us so proud of him,” they added.
The GCA family is always proud of the students’ accomplishments and very grateful to all the parents who support their children’s academic and extracurricular activities.
