Gibbons, Takashima conquer PSA Open – Ocean Water Swim

Member of the Palau national swim team and high school student from Mindszenty High School, Maria Gibbons, concluded the long distance 5 kilometer race with a time 1 hour 13 minutes to triumph over her competitors from the female division and first overall for both male and female categories. Coming in on second place is another young swimmer and member of the swim team, Osisang Chilton, who finished the race with a time of 1:15:31 while trailing her is Luara McDonald who wrapped up her swim at a time of 1:19:21 to get third place. Finishing fourth is Antja Flowers – 1:20:58, 5th place is Evelyn Otto – 1:30:42, 6th place Judy Otto – 2:06:49.

Masayuki Takashima took the male division as he was the only participant for that category. He finished the race with 1:49:04

Other notable winners for different races were; 1500m Male Division – #1 Bill Ridpath -27:24, #2 Youri Ito – 27:44, #3 Tino Faatuuala – 33:32; Female Division – #1 Keesha Keane – 26:01, #2 UB Misech – 26:02, Ronella Maido – 26:58; 1000m Male Division – #1 Kaito Fuji – 18:26, #2 Hidekazu Takashima – 28:25; Female Division -#1Rhena Joy Maido – 20:52, #2 Roylin Akiwo – 21:03, #3 Marley Rabauliman – 28:25; 500m Male Division – #1 Demei Yobech – 9:53, #2 Junior Brechtefeld – 10:41, #3 Nelson Masang – 10:47; Female Division – #1 Ayana Rengiil – 10:05, #3 Hana Kim – 12:07.

The PSA’s Annual Open Ocean Water Swim saw 37 participants and about 60 people who came to enjoy the morning swim race at the world renowned beach resort named the Palau Pacific Resort.

In a related news, PSA continues swimming competition when they run as of press time, June 7 and 8, series of swimming events dubbed as the 2010 Summer Kick – Off Invitational where different strokes and distances will be competed at Meyuns swimming pool. These are the free, breast, back, fly, and individual medleys on a 25m, 50m, 100m, 200, and 400m races.

Different age groups and brackets l.ike 8 and under, 9 – 13, 14 – 18, Open competition, and Master’s (25 years old and over) are arranged for the afternoon race that will begin 5:30pm.
