Salvador said that he will leave to his traditional leaders the decision pertaining to the Koror State Government letter asking to review their Bul.
In a telephone interview, Salvador told Horizon that he has no idea what his traditional leaders response to the letter.
He said that since the last time he gave the letter of the KSG to the chiefs, they never met to discuss the bul.
Salvador also added that reviewing the bul is the traditional leaders’ concern.
The Bul is a traditional law wherein anyone will be caught fishing within the territorial waters of Aimeliik and Ngarchelong will be sanctioned. Many residents from Koror State were affected by the traditional law.
Koror State Gov. Yositaka Adachi earlier said that they will implement the law restricting residents of Ngarchelong and Aimeliik to enter Koror State.
He said that they will impose the law and looking for the possibility of adding more restrictions against the two States.
Adachi, however, said that the KSG is still open for any developments until July, the effective date of the law implementation.
He said they are still open for any changes if Aimeliik Gov. Leilani Reklai and Ngarchelong Gov. Salvador will discuss and resolve the issue amicably.
Some of the measures that will be implemented by the KSG include: prohibiting state voters of Aimeliik and Ngarchelong from fishing within the territorial waters of Koror; Selectively enforce KSPLA’s lease amnesty for residents of Koror and deny eligibility to all lessees who are voters of Ngarchelong and Aimeliik; prohibit Ngarchelong and Aimeliik state voters from applying for any lease in Koror and the law would then impose the new fine of $500 for each offender.
Adachi said that these measures were already drafted. They are now going through the process like conducting public hearings before it will be passed by the legislators and signed by him into state law.
The law will take effect on July 1, 2010.
